Tomorrow is finally Election Day.
Over the last several weeks, End Citizen United’s President Tiffany Muller has had the honor of supporting some amazing candidates from coast to coast, from Troy Jackson in Maine to Randy Villegas in California.
Across the country, voters are ranking two interconnected issues as their top concerns: affordability and corruption. End Citizens United has been supporting candidates and advocates fighting the endemic political corruption that harms everyday Americans since its inception. But they’ve been extra busy this year, as hundreds of candidates running at the state and national levels have made fighting anti-corruption the central message of their campaigns.
150 candidates in this year’s general election have taken the Unrig Washington pledge. That means that there’s a huge opportunity for Democrats to retake the majority in Congress and that the incoming class will be made up of members committed to serious campaign finance reform.
As you prepare to watch returns come in, we wanted to reintroduce you to some of the anti-corruption candidates running in the most competitive and swing districts and states in the country.
Tomorrow night, keep your eye on these tossup races where Democrats are running against Big Money in politics.
House Races
In CA-22 Randy Villegas is running to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. David Valadao, who voted for the Big Billionaire Bill that gutted Medicaid funding and dramatically increased ICE funding, while representing a district where two-thirds of constituents rely on Medicaid and ICE has terrorized many families. After the GOP candidate won by roughly 7 points two years ago, with Randy on the ballot this district is now considered a toss-up. You can read the Democracy News interview with Randy here.
In NY-17 Cait Conley, a West Point graduate and decorated veteran, is running to challenge Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler, a former utility lobbyist who has accepted over $1 million in corporate PAC money since 2022 — and who was named to End Citizen United’s Most Corrupt list. This race is considered a tossup. You can read more about Cait here and watch her in conversation with Tiffany Muller here.
In OH-7 Brian Poindexter, a longtime ironworker, is running to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Max Miller, who has faced allegations of domestic violence and also voted in support of the Big Billionaire Bill. Trump won the district by 11 points in 2024, but the district is now considered a tossup. When times get tough, working people are always asked to do more with less,” Brian told Democracy News. You can read more about Brian here.
In PA-08 Paige Cognetti, mayor of Scranton, is running to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Rob Bresnahan, a prolific stock trader whose personal net worth is reportedly as high as $69 million. He dumped Medicaid contractor stocks while a member of Congress as the GOP was ironing out its Big Billionaire Bill that defunded Medicaid. End Citizens United filed an ethics complaint against Bresnahan and named him as one of the Most Corrupt politicians of 2026. This race is considered a tossup.
Senate Races
In Maine Troy Jackson is running against Republican incumbent Susan Collins, who is also on End Citizens United’s Most Corrupt list, because she’s accepted a stunning $8.3 million in corporate PAC money over her career and opposes a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. Jackson, on the other hand, said when being endorsed by End Citizens United that “I’ve spent my career trying to make government work for working people — not billionaires and corporations that try to buy elections.”
In Texas James Talarico is posing a real challenge to current Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who definitely is the Most Corrupt. The Republican-led Texas legislature impeached Paxton over his long list of corruption allegations. End Citizens United has been supporting the Talarico campaign, which is squarely focused on fighting corruption. Everywhere he goes, he calls out how, “Billionaires aren’t just buying yachts and jets — they’re buying political power, and they’re using that power to rig our political system.”
In Michigan Abdul El-Sayed is running against Republican candidate Mike Rogers, who End Citizens United has called out for his self-enrichment and self-dealing. In contrast, El-Sayed was one of the first candidates to join ECU’s Unrig Washington campaign. “Government won’t actually work for people until we get billionaire and corporate money out of politics,” El-Sayed said. “Our democracy can only truly work when our representatives answer to their voters, not to the wealthy and powerful. It’s time to fix a system that has allowed billionaires to bankroll politicians and tell us what we can’t have or fight for. Elections should belong to the people, not to the highest bidder.”
End Citizens United has supported dozens more candidates who’re committed to flipping Republican-held seats and fighting corruption.
End Citizens United is looking forward to celebrating big wins and preparing to fight for meaningful reform alongside these champions once they’re in office.
