It is sad to see how both parties play political games in government while breaking their most sacred promises. Thousands of Afghan allies were left behind in hiding without shelter or safety, while leaders in D.C. are only focused on winning elections
The more I read what people are saying, the more I think the missing piece is not awareness.
People know something is wrong.
They know representation has weakened. They know money has distorted public life. They know division is being used against them. They know many institutions are not answering honestly.
The missing piece is a peaceful way to act together without being absorbed into another machine.
That is what Civic Independence is trying to offer through The People’s Declarations.
A way to say:
We are here.
We see what is happening.
We do not consent to silence.
We affirm minimum standards.
Power must answer to the people.
That may be one way to begin rebuilding from the people up.
Simply trying to enforce a trading ban on Congress is never going to work. They'll find ways around it, or the penalties they impose will be so slight as not to matter. I'm convinced that the only way to fix this is to raise congressional pay. Significantly, as into the millions of dollars, on a par with CEO base pay. This would eliminate the need for members to be in the market in the first place and would also eventually attract some more talented and intelligent leadership to our government.

Supreme Court Justices are above the law (scotus with a small s for bribery, corruption, selling their positions). They make the law as much as, or more than, other branches of government. They can ignore laws or make new laws of their choosing, with no congressional oversight (small c for a bought congress). The law is and can be whatever they say it is.
